Want to help cook a meal for Ronald McDonald House? We need about 4 volunteers to help! Meet in the Gathering Space outside the chapel at Newman  at 3:45 p.m. and we’ll carpool over.

Walking Prayer —

10-11:30 a.m. — April 30 – May 7 – May 21 – June 4 –- June 25 – July 9 – July 23 – August 13 -

Join us for walking prayer this year. We will meet in the gathering space at 10:00 and walk out onto the trail and back to the Newman Center. We will end at 11:30. On the trail we will pray, reflect, fellowship, and enjoy our beautiful Missouri nature. All are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Ride Out of Poverty —

May 21 – 10 a.m.

Help us ride out poverty in Central Missouri! The 3rd Annual Riding Out Poverty event is scheduled for May 21, 2011. This year, CMCA has partnered with PedNet to include the event in the City of Columbia’s Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week. The ride will coincide the Department of Natural Resources’ Trail Day celebration at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial MKT Trailhead located at 800 West Providence. Riders will depart at 10:00 and travel to Katfish Katy’s on the Katy Trail. Along the way, riders will be able to search for hidden treasure by locating prizes according to GPS coordinates provided to them at registration. Upon arriving at Katfish Katy’s, participants will be greeted with entertainment and a meal before riding back to the point of origin. This 18.6 mile bike ride can accommodate all trail riders the day of the event, including riders that may choose shorter distances and originate at any other access point along the MKT or Katy Trail. Riders choosing this option can retrieve event packets upon arrival at Katfish Katy’s. Pre-registration is preferred at www.ridingoutpoverty.org. Fees are $30 for an individual and $100 for a family or team of four.

Poverty Summit —

June 14 – Capital Plaza Hotel – Jefferson City

Learn more about how people in communities just like yours are working to eliminate poverty. The keynote speaker will be Collins Tuohy from “The Blind Side,” who will offer her perspective on poverty and how one person can make a difference. Visit www.communityaction.org for more information.
